Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives made incredible progress in the past few years but are now under pressure from some corporations as they look to reduce expenses. Even with a reframe to culture and belonging, team resources to steer this initiative have been impacted by budget cuts as companies question the underpinnings of supportive research and deal with activists likes Robby Starbucks. The result is a growing concern around employee retention, engagement which impacts company innovation. Company leaders should lean into the business value of culture and belonging as it evolves so team members are not left with a gap in support or a culture that allows everyone to be their authentic selves. Recent articles highlight two critical perspectives: the risk of losing the true intent of DEI efforts and the potential long-term impacts of scaling back these initiatives. This panel discussion will explore these themes, examining the current state of DEI and what solutions employees can take to build a better workplace.
